Welcome to Janice Starling-Williams Personal Page
More than 31 million Americans have CKD and unfortunately that number is only rising. If left untreated, CKD can ultimately progress to kidney failure. The only treatment options available for people with kidney failure are dialysis or a kidney transplant. At this time, there are nearly 600,000 Americans living with kidney failure and over 400,000 of us receive life-saving dialysis treatments.
My name is Janice Starling-Williams. My husband of eight years is Michael G. Williams. I am the 5th eldest child out of 6th of the late Mr. Jimmy Lee and Viola Starling Sr. of St. Petersburg FL.
I have been a dialysis patient for the last 13 years and 8 months. My kidney failure was caused by uncontrolled hypertension. In subsequent years after that discovery, my doctor noticed calcium in my milk ducts during my annual examination which resulted in me obtaining a mastectomy. After the mastectomy biopic, nothing was found. This unexpected affliction decreased my chances of receiving a kidney transplant due to the surgeon left a capillary bleeder open, resulting in over 30 plus blood transfusions. Additionally, I underwent the Lap Band weight loss procedure in order to qualify for the weight requirement for a kidney transplant. Successively, I lost forty-two pounds. I have done all modalities of dialysis, Peritoneal, in Center, and Home-Hemo. 0n December 13, 2013 I was blessed with a kidney and underwent transplant surgery.
My lifetime goals consist of bringing about continued awareness, education and advocacy about End Stage Renal Decease (ESRD). This is a personal commitment of mine because of my own experience. I’m dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of knowledge in children, women, ESRD/dialysis patients and all who are willing to learn.
With your generous gift, the DPC Education Center (an affiliate organization of Dialysis Patient Citizens) will be able to produce industry leading classes, create one-of-a-kind tools and provide world class patient-centered research.
